In a famous 1984 study, educational psychologist Benjamin Bloom found that the average student who got one-on-one tutoring with mastery checks performed better than 98 percent of students taught in a regular classroom. Here is what most people miss: the results did not come from a person sitting beside a child. They came from the mastery checks, a system that never moves on until the skill is solid. From the founder
I spent nearly two decades in Texas classrooms, as a teacher, an instructional coach, and a principal. In every role I met the same student: bright, hardworking, and unable to explain their own answers.
My doctoral research focused on critical thinking and student achievement, and the Insightful Learning Institute is the system that grew out of that work. Past students have gone on to Ivy League universities, including Harvard and Yale, as well as Johns Hopkins, the London School of Economics, Virginia Tech, UT Austin, and Texas A&M, and on to law schools and doctoral programs.
Every part of this program was built by me. Every session is one on one. I coach founding families personally, and a small team of coaches, trained in this system, teaches alongside me.
